Review by Brandon Watts & Staff
Amber Rae Dunn gets listeners in the holiday spirit with a lively rendition of Willie Nelson’s “Pretty Paper.” Starting off the song, a lovely arrangement of rhythmic guitar, steady pulsing bass, glistening accents from piano, ambient warbling organ, and solid percussion beautifully spread across the stereo image making for a big, spacious sound as Amber’s dreamy vocals highlight the record sweetly serenading listeners.
Amber adds a bit of extra flair through twangy vocals that give the song a slightly more modern country vibe while maintaining the relaxed, wholesome vibe of the original. There is a happy sadness to “Pretty Paper” while between the descriptions of beautifully wrapped presents and love notes, the lyrics remind you that not everyone has the same holiday experience as she sings,
“And there he sits all alone on the sidewalk / He’s hoping you won’t pass him by / Should you stop? / Better not your much too busy / You're in a hurry and my how time flies / And in the distance the ringing of laughter / And in the midst of the laughter he cries.”
Amber Rae Dunn’s heartwarming rendition of “Pretty Paper” is a tasteful take on the classic that you surely will not want to miss out on. Her crooning vocal performance paired with a gripping instrumental arrangement and top-notch production by famed Producer, Billy Smiley, makes for an undeniably music experience and puts Amber Rae on our artist to watch list.
