KC Johns - 'Please Come Home For Christmas'

Review by Reagan March & Staff

“Please Come Home For Christmas”, a new holiday cover by KC Johns, is the perfect holiday song this season as it reminds us of what's important - love.

The expressive instruments are a great match for the feel of the piece, combining seamlessly with Johns’ classic country sound. With the piano being crucial to the piece, the octave change is what truly signifies intensity and growth, creating an overall well-rounded track.

Besides the soothing instrumental, Johns ’voice will remind you of artists such as Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow, and several other major country/blues artists who know how to reach your soul. Her slight country articulations and nuances throughout the piece are what makes her rendition of this song have character.

The original message of this song is excellently portrayed through the passion in KC’s voice while she sings lyrics such as, “Bells will be ringing, this sad, sad New Years. Oh what a Christmas to have the blues. My baby’s gone, I have no friends, to wish me greetings once again”. The feeling of missing loved ones during the holiday season is the relatable message portrayed in this classic holiday song.

KC Johns’ “Please Come Home For Christmas” is a unique interpretation that strongly connects to the lyrics. Overall KC"s version is a country-blues song for anyone wanting to bring some soul to their holiday playlist. With her rendition of "Please Come Home For Christmas", it is clear that KC has what it takes to captivate with both her original and cover music, in any season.
