Paul Demarco - "Drunk Snowman"

Review by April Kranz

First, songwriter Kellie Niederhelman and vocalist Paul DeMarco asked Santa if he had his vaccination card. However, Mr. Clause is not the only holiday friend they're keeping in contact with this season. Drunk Snowman has all the fun, and bluesy (or should I say boozy) licks of Santa are you vaxxed, but these lyrics are wild enough to get DeMarco a cushy spot on the naughty list. If you're not already tuning in to Kellie and Paul's holiday releases, we've got the highlights right here.

A slick drum fill leads us into a dramatic band entrance, with a group vocal that sounds like a misbehaving Rockettes' kick line. Our walking bassline slides in with DeMarco's smooth main melody, regaling the tale of the Drunk Snowman:

"Snow is fallin', friends are callin'

Snowman babbling unknown sounds

In the front yard turned upside down

Laying with his head on the ground"

While the neighborhood isn't happy with this Snowman's shenanigans, DeMarco has a different opinion of this wintery hooligan as we start rocking into the chorus:

"A drunk snowman is my friend,

Is it wrong to be a fan?

No magical hat can be found

As the rumours are flying around

Channel news hanging out don't care who's about

Taking a stand, He is my friend

Is it wrong to be a fan of a drunk snowman?"

If you think that's the end of the craziness, the lyrics get even better: frozen margaritas, Snowman taking whiskey shooters, and that sweet Rockettes' inspired vocal coming back for more group singalong breaks.

Eventually, the kids must go to bed to wait for the big guy in the red suit, and when the fun starts after dark, you can blast Drunk Snowman while getting a little tipsy with your Christmas crew. Just make sure to drink responsibly (and bring your holiday-themed drinks; egg nogs, cranberry margaritas, your options are many, my frosty friends).
