Pauline Frechette - 'Freedom'
Review by Patrick Joseph
“Freedom” is a cinematic and engaging piece of music. The opening sounds of synthesizers and vocals are ethereal and set the stage perfectly for this progressive and relentless song. A huge chorus and rhythmically dense verses combine to create an energetic sound and a mesmerizing song. Frechette’s vocals are virtuosic and tasteful. The overall arch of the music is satisfying, leaving listeners wanting to hear the song again and again. Combining computerized drums and synth layers with the ultra-human vocal style gives this music a distinct edge.
Lyrically, “Freedom” is an uplifting message of unification.
“Sailing over the sea on ships of emotion, Set sail the dream, All nations come together now, As one.”
Frechette delivers these lyrics with a palpable conviction. This is music that will speak to your core.
“Time has come for us all to lay down our weapons, become a team, create a new civilization as one…Freedom.”
The relationship between lyric and music create an exciting and inclusive message.
The arrangement of “Freedom” is the result of a master at work. The intricacies of the rhythmic patterns and the interplay between instruments and vocals is wonderful. The style is reminiscent of greats like Elfman and Lennox yet offers an entirely fresh perspective. The intensity of the bass, drums, and vocals imbue this music with undeniable energy. Amazingly, the density of musical ideas present on this track is somehow delivered in a package that unfolds in a way that feels completely organic. Bringing so much to the table and doing everything so well, “Freedom” is a highly satisfying work of art.
