Skip from Almost July - Exclusive Interview
Almost July is the creation of Skip Glogan. Skip writes, produces and arranges all of their songs. On the stage, Skip plays keys and fronts the band with a combination of live instruments, samples, and electronics created in Ableton Live. The band is completed by New York mainstay Derek Broomhead (drums, drum pads). Almost July has made their mark at iconic NYC venues Rockwood Music Hall and The Delancey.
For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough then tell us more!!
Music for you!
When you are writing a song, where do you draw inspiration from? Or what topics do you like to sing about?
Usually we'll just talk about stories from however long ago which lead to an overall topic that sometimes doesn't have anything to do with whatever story we started with and from that we start writing lyric ideas
Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?
Skateboarding, eating, sleeping :D
Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it?
Out of the new few songs we released, for me, its probably "Young", mainly because the story that the we used to start that song came from thinking back to someone very very close to me that had passed away, and once we started writing it sort of changed directions and took the shape of a break up song so for that reason its "Young."
What was the first song or piece you ever wrote!?
Honestly, I can't remember but I was really young (like 7 or 8) when I started writing little bits and pieces of songs so it was probably something about a dog or car or something like that
What is your dream gig? Is there a gig that you really want that would be the ultimate show for you?
For us it was never a specific place, we just wanted to play any venue that allowed us to connect with as many fans as possible
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?
Definitely, we'll be releasing new music over the next few months and also playing shows around the NYC area and later on we'll head out to a few other states.
Tell us where fans can access your music.
