Review Written by Victoria Scott & Staff

The W.A M. Awards celebrate the year’s most outstanding independent artists from around the world in multiple genres and categories. "Best Song" and "Best Album" nominations were based on Artistry, Musicianship, Originality, Professionalism, Diversity, and Excellence. W.A.M. stands for "We Are the Music Makers.' Jennifer Porter's Album "These Years" was the 2020 W.A.M. Award Winner for Best Album in the Roots / Americana / Bluegrass / Blues music category.

Jennifer Porter’s country gospel “Road to Redemption” from the album These Years is a story about a redemptive soul. The slow build in the drum groove introduces a soulful organ and bluesy piano. The chorus builds steadily as the deep lead vocals gracefully move along with the blues progression. The chorus repeats and a heavenly choir sings a warm harmony. There’s a distant echo in the background as the break comes in with the blues guitar singing the hook. Producer Jay Newland elevates Jennifer’s beautiful alto tone allowing the vocal performance to captivate your full attention.

When you've reached a breaking point, everything seems lost and unforgivable. Jennifer Porter's "Road to Redemptions" is about taking steps to be a better person. Lryically, the song explores an uncertain journey that pushes towards the path to atonement. Jennifer sings the chorus,

“Broken down on the road to redemption So far from home Lost my way Fell to my knees Now I’m lost on the road to redemption Broke down on the road to redemption.”

“Road to Redemption” is a song for the spirit and soul. Jennifer Porter is an awarding winning artist with exceptional musicality and unique artistry. Her use of analogies is brilliant and her stunning vocals delivery her words brilliantly. She sings with such ease and purpose, in a way that listeners become engrossed in her message. This song is solemn and has a profound emotional message about penitence. She conveys her message clearly and purely with dynamic instrumentation and velvet vocals. In "Road to Redemption", Jennifer Porter shines from the heart which seems to be where her music and message come from.
